Training on tools and applications can always be challenging and everyone learns in differents ways. For me, getting into a tool or application is always the most beneficial way for me to learn and think about how to apply the tool to my client work.
Would it be possible, if not already available to have a QA or test environment of the change navigator where users could test and get use to the features and functionality?
